Phoenix Motorcycle Accident Leaves Man in Danger of Leg Amputation

By Motorcycle Accident Lawyer on February 15, 2012 - No comments

Phoenix motorcycle accident attorneys at the Breyer Law Offices, P.C. were sorry to learn from a news report in ABC 15 that a motorcyclist may need his leg amputated after a February 7 crash at Northern and 31st Avenue. The collision occurred between the motorcycle and another car at about 8 a.m. It is unclear whether the other driver sustained injuries or even what happened to cause the crash. Our thoughts and prayers are with the motorcyclist at this time and we hope doctors are able to save his leg.

Causes of This Phoenix Motorcycle Accident

This accident could have been caused for many reasons, including that one of the drivers was distracted or failed to yield to the other. Because it happened at an intersection, it is also possible that one driver was attempting to make a left turn and failed to yield to oncoming traffic. Other possibilities include that one rear-ended the other when the light turned yellow and the vehicle in front stopped suddenly.

Phoenix Motorcycle Accident Statistics

There were nearly 3,000 motorcycle crashes in Arizona in 2010, but it is unclear how many of them occurred in Phoenix. The crashes in Arizona caused 86 fatalities and 2,390 injuries, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT). These crashes often injure the motorcyclists since they are less protected than if they were enclosed in a car. Motorcyclists often sustain head injuries as well as limb injuries, as was the case in this crash.
