Motorcycle Law
Let's review some of the more salient laws pertaining to Arizona motorcycle operation.
It is widely believe that there are no requirements to wear a helmet in Arizona. However, Arizona motorcycle helmet laws are far more restrictive than the "no helmet law" many riders rely upon.
For instance, motorcycle riders in Arizona must wear helmets if they're under the age of 18. Unless your bike comes with a windscreen to shield you from debris and glare, you're required by AZ law to wear eye protection at all times. The state allows the use of modulating headlights and has no restrictions on the age of passengers. All drivers, however, are required to take their motorcycles in for safety inspections on a regular basis.
In terms of bike equipment, the law requires both left and right mirrors and a muffler. There are no restrictions on radar detectors or helmet-speakers. If you want to carry a passenger on your vehicle, you must provide both a seat and a footrest for him or her. You're required to get liability insurance and keep your handlebars at a standard height as defined by Section 28-964c of Arizona law. In certain circumstances, according to 13 AAC 02.427, two motorcycles can operate in the same lane abreast of one another. Arizona statutes provide Lemon Law protection for motorcycle operators and drivers.
